Swedish Study: Reduced Hospital Stays After Hip Fracture Increase Risk of Post-Discharge Mortality

March 2, 2015: Researchers in Sweden are questioning the general trend toward reduced hospital stays after a hip fracture, concluding that for patients whose hospital stays are 10 days or fewer, every 1-day reduction in stay increases the odds of death within 30 days of discharge by 16%.
